Sacred Moments Shared in Community

From joyful beginnings and new commitments to times of remembrance, St. Barnabas walks alongside individuals and families through life’s sacred moments.

Weddings

We believe marriage is a sacred and joyful gift. Whether you have grown up in our pews or are stepping through our doors for the very first time, we would love to help you begin your life together. We invite those who want to marry, renew their vows or bless their civil marriage

Your first step is to contact the church administrator to set up a meeting with the Rector. Once you meet, you can begin to plan your ceremony. Setting the date - usually a Friday or Saturday is best. We suggest planning a date a year in advance.

Pre-marital counseling sessions are required in the Episcopal Church and are usually taken with the Rector four or more times before the wedding. Please contact us to tour the facilities and arrange a meeting to discuss your plans.

All are welcome to get married at Saint Barnabas - no matter your faith background.

The Holy Sacrament of Baptism

From the point of view of Christian faith, the most significant and transforming event in a person’s life is baptism. Holy Baptism is a sacrament by which God adopts us as God’s children and makes us members of Christ's body, the Church, and inheritors of the kingdom of God.

Baptism is a sign of God's own love for us, unmerited and unconditional. It is a sign of new life and new beginning in Christ. We baptize people of all ages.

When does Baptism take place?

Baptism is a powerful, transformational moment for the entire faith community during which we welcome our newest members, vow to support them, and in so doing reaffirm our own baptismal vows. Thus, Baptism belongs in public worship and is incorporated into the regular Sunday service or other feast days throughout the year.

Normally Baptisms are not scheduled in seasons of Lent, or Advent or other feast days throughout the year. Holy Baptism is especially appropriate at the Easter Vigil, on the Day of Pentecost, on All Saints’ Day or the Sunday after All Saints’ Day, and on the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after the Epiphany).

If you know a family member, friend, co-worker, neighbor, or perhaps yourself, who would like to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, please contact the church office at 508-548-3863 or via email office@stbfalmouth.org.

All persons not previously baptized with water in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are welcome to participate.

Making Faith Your Own

Confirmation is a time when parishioners make a public affirmation of their maturing faith and take on the promises made at their baptism for themselves.

The Bishop leads the worship service and lays hands on each individual confirmed while praying the Holy Spirit to continue to sustain and empower that person.

Confirmation preparation includes studying the Bible, Christian history, theology, and the history of the Episcopal Church, as well as engaging in service to others, prayer, reflection, and discernment. Preparation for Confirmation happens through classes with the clergy.

Please contact the office office@stbfalmouth.org for more information.

Confirmation is a spiritual journey point in the life of a Christian; it is a rite of passage that can happen at any age.

Funerals & Memorial Services

Many funerals and memorial services are held at Saint Barnabas and we are happy to talk to you about these services. Members of the parish often leave their wishes for funerals with the Rector so that at the times of death, family members will be aware of requests. Funerals follow the services in the Book of Common Prayer. Readings and hymns are chosen by the family with the help of the Clergy and Director of Music.

Members of the parish are always welcome to hold funerals for their loved ones here. Others are invited to contact the parish administrator to preview available options, and to review fees for both funerals and memorial services.

Please call the office for more information, 508-548-3863 or email office@stbfalmouth.org. Please make an appointment with the clergy if you would like to talk more about your wishes.
